the best solution for
Façade insulation
Facades are the vertical shell of a building. They are aesthetic the appearance and functional in carrying and insulating in residential or commercial construction. Facade finishes come in many varieties; from masonry brick facades, open facades or rebate sections to steel panels. The versatility of materials requires a variety of building physics solutions behind the facade for the purpose of sound facade insulation.
A wide variety of
options
A functional insulation has a breathable waterproofing membrane behind the cladding and a vapour control or vapour barrier membrane on the warm side of the insulation. Depending on the insulation material used, the appropriate type of membrane can be selected. A cladding should be installed in a ventilated manner, creating an air cavity between the membrane and the cladding. By applying a reflective membrane such as Miofol® 170AG or Polytex® 145AG, a higher insulation value can be achieved without a thick insulation package.
When working with an open facade, membranes should ideally be black, so they do not catch the eye behind the facade elements. However, this means the membrane is exposed to physical loads as well as UV radiation via sunlight.
Meuwissen Gerritsen has developed UV-resistant facade membranes for this specific purpose. When using them, it is important to know the distance between the facade components as well as the facade’s total open surface area.
If facades are subject to a higher risk of fire, it is recommended to use membranes that limit fire behaviour. In this case, Polytex® Fassade FR or Tyvek® Firecurb are the best solutions. Do you have specific questions about facade structures or the use of membranes? Then please contact us so we can share our ideas with you.

WHAT IS A VAPOuR CONTROL MEMBRANE?
For the insulation to work effectively, in addition to the insulating material, a vapour control membrane is used on the warm side of the insulation in combination with a breathable membrane on the cold side. But what exactly is a vapour control membrane? A vapor controul membrane keeps moisture from inside the house from entering the insulation. This way, you will prevent mold and wood rot. It also keeps the insulation material from getting damp and continuing to do its job. Check out our dedicated page when you want to know all about vapour control membranes and its various applications.
WHAT IS A breathable MEMBRANE?
What exactly is a breathable membrane? A breathable membrane ensures that vapour generated in the construction has a chance to be dissipated through the membrane. By vapour we mean water or moisture in gaseous form. Vapour, unlike a drop of water, is not visible to the naked eye. A breathable membrane also prevents rain, snow or other weather influences from entering the structure. A breathable membrane is therefore waterproof. The breathable membrane comes behind the cladding or under roof tiles. Here it is important that you look carefully at the type of construction to determine which membrane you need. For example, is it a roof or facade and should the membrane be applied to a hard surface or soft insulation? To learn more about a breathable membrane and its applications, check out our instructional videos. Of course, you can always feel free to contact us as well. We are happy to advise you.
